Titanium Anode Scrap Recycling

Project Overview

In August 2026, J&F Precious Metals Trading Co., Ltd. completed a recycling transaction involving 10 metric tons of titanium anode scrap from an electroplating plant in Brazil.

The project involved on-site dismantling of the electrolysis cells, precious metal composition screening using a handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzer, and the subsequent purchase of the iridium-bearing titanium anode scrap.

After the material assessment, J&F reached a purchase agreement with the supplier and assisted with export coordination and sea freight arrangements to Hong Kong.

This project demonstrates J&F's ability to handle industrial titanium anode scrap recycling projects that require on-site work, material evaluation, and international logistics coordination.

On-Site Electrolysis Cell Dismantling

The recycling project began with an on-site visit to the Brazilian electroplating plant.

J&F carried out the dismantling of the electrolysis cells to recover the discarded titanium anode materials. On-site dismantling helped facilitate material collection and enabled the scrap to be assessed in its actual industrial condition.

Titanium anode scrap from electroplating and electrochemical applications may contain valuable coating materials, depending on the electrode design and service history. Proper material identification is therefore an important step in evaluating its recycling potential.

Handheld XRF Testing for Precious Metal Screening

After recovering the titanium anode scrap, J&F used a handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzer to screen the material for precious metal content.

The testing identified the presence of iridium in the inspected material, providing useful information for the subsequent purchasing evaluation.

The recycling value of coated titanium anodes depends on several factors, including coating composition, precious metal content, coating distribution, material condition, and the quantity of recoverable coating. Handheld XRF results can support on-site screening, while the appropriate sampling and analytical methods should be considered when determining representative composition and final settlement values.

Purchase Agreement and Export Coordination

Following the on-site dismantling and material assessment, J&F signed a purchase agreement with the Brazilian supplier for the 10-metric-ton lot of titanium anode scrap.

J&F also assisted with export coordination and sea freight arrangements to Hong Kong, helping move the transaction from material recovery and assessment toward international shipment.

Cross-border recycling projects involving industrial scrap require appropriate documentation, accurate material descriptions, and compliance with applicable export, import, customs, and transportation requirements.
